Hello friends! I’ve been binging on one of my favorite pastimes—catching up on interior design trends and the latest looks. Although I love drawing inspiration from new ideas, I personally gravitate towards timeless looks in the home that will outlast any fads. Today I’ve put together 10 ideas for decorating the home that I think will be fabulous to try out in 2023!

Taking inspo from new ideas and shaping them into something that speaks to you is a great way to create a home you love. I hope you enjoy these 10 selections I have made for you today.

#1 Vintage Picture Frames:

Propping up a vintage-style picture frame on a furniture piece adds timeless charm to any nook in the home. You can also hang one on the wall as part of a decor scene to warm up the look. Keeping the number of aged picture frames or portraits down to one or two, while combining them with other, more modern items, avoids making the whole vignette seem outdated or old.

#2 Capiz Lighting:

Although the use of capiz shell goods can be traced back to the 16th century, incorporating more modern versions of the classic shimmery decor in the home can completely enhance the aesthetic in a space.

Coupling the luxurious feel of a globe capiz pendant with a more traditional backdrop takes the elegance level up a notch without throwing the decor style off balance.

This scalloped capiz wall sconce is functional wall art. Its luminous glow warms up this corner while harmonizing with the surrounding decor.

#3 Quaint Office Nooks:

The idea of a home office area with simplistic character is appealing in several ways. We can make use of small spaces while bringing in additional style into the home’s aesthetic.

Antique style desks are wonderful for anchoring the look and eliciting a vintage mood. Other than a few accessories, you don’t need much more to complete a quaint working area. I love the minimalist, yet enchanting aesthetic of this work space.

#4 Emboldened Area Rugs:

We are seeing bright colors in both home and fashion trends. Colorful sneakers and kitchens with palettes reminiscing looks of the 70’s are back in style. I say layer on those area rugs that pack some extra punch.

Here the area rug is the star of the show. A statement rug plays up the design dynamic in the room so you don’t need to fill up the space with tons of decor.

#5 Decorative Tiles:

On our recent trip to Portugal I found myself captivated by the hand-painted tiles that run through the architectural veins of this picturesque country. The use of decorative tiles inside and outside the home is a concept the Portuguese have mastered well.

Isn’t this a dreamy kitchen?

Entire rooms can take on a new life with gorgeous tile work.

#5 Moody Walls:

Throughout history, displays of rooms in the likes of elegant libraries, billiard rooms, or secluded night cap retreats have often been studded with rich, deep colored walls. Dark hues of greens, burgundies and blues would greet guests in stately form.

Isn’t it wonderful that in 2023 we don’t have to be royalty to create our own spaces with luxurious flair? Adding moody paint colors to those special enclaves in the home gives you an elegant canvas to work with.

#6 Casual Kitchen's With English Flair

If you are thinking of embarking on a new kitchen build or are wanting to make some tweaks to your existing kitchen, perhaps you’ll be inspired to consider elements of a utilitarian and inviting English cottage kitchen. The classic, simplistic beauty of traditional English kitchens seems to never go out of style.

Softening the look with muted paint colors, shaker-style cabinets, and natural elements like stone, brick or wood are some ways to mimic the nostalgic, relaxed feel of English-inspired kitchens.

#7 Falling For Grandmillennial Style

Coined Grandmillennial Style by House Beautiful because of its granny chic look and it’s popularity amongst millennials, this decor style is one of my favorites.  Think grandma’s house with a contemporary spin, while preserving that feminine, cozy feel.

Craving this homey style in your spaces? Feel free to layer things up—florals, patterns, colors and dainty accessories. Bring in those heirloom pieces and don’t be afraid to mix and match traditional elements with modern touches.

#8 Cabinets of Curiosities

Ever since I watched the episode of For The Love of Kitchens where they featured the most beautiful cabinet of curiosities, I have been obsessed with this interior design concept. What a brilliant and decorative way to store and display your collections of assortments.

From insects and coin collections, to linens, dinnerware and random artifacts, cabinets of curiosities serve an important function—to house all those things that mean something to you and that are worthwhile showcasing.

And what could be better than a charming cabinet that becomes a showcase piece for the ages in your home.

#10 Couch Combinations

I can see why a sectional is a popular choice in the living room—a great filler for a big space, comfy, and loads of seating. Another idea for a new look is to ditch the sectional and consider mixing things up.

The concept of combining seating options of varying patterns and style lends itself to endless design possibilities!

Whether your taste leans traditional or whether you fancy a more modern vibe, I urge you to take some risks and play with colors and patterns in those lived-in areas of your home. Infuse joy and color in your day-to-day by mixing and matching. If you stick to tying colors of different patterns together, you’ll avoid a hodgepodge effect.
