Upstairs Bedroom One-Original Look

Greetings lovely readers! We always say our oldest son’s bedroom has the best seat in the house. With windows on 3 walls there is a pleasant 270 degree viewing radius, including getting first glance of any approaching visitors on the North side and capturing the best lake views on the East. I often consult with my 12 year old because he has great taste.  He picked out the color scheme for his room, incorporating his absolute favorite color—RED.

Yellow chevron wallpaper from Wayfair accents a large wall, setting a dynamic backdrop for the entire room and a beautiful contrast with the red pops of color throughout. The chair was a $10 thrift store find which I cleaned and freshened up by painting the legs white. I gave my son my old desk. To freshen it up I painted some stencils on the door fronts and added two coats of red paint. The stencils came through the paint very subtly for a gentle detail.

My husband Ronny built a window seat the size of a twin bed perfect for sleepovers, naps or curling up with a book while catching rays from the afternoon sun. The fabric I used to cover the seat plays out the room’s palette with its pattern of tiny yellow and red squares.

Ronny built three shelves to house books and knick knacks. I stained them using Minwax’s Dark Walnut. I liked how the dark walnut added a a rich earthy  look to the window seat nook.

Framed artwork from my son decorates the walls.

I found this pretty gray Bedford Home quilt set on Amazon which provided a neutral base for the stronger colors in the space. A lovely embroidered detail lines the edges. For the bed skirt I purchased the Utopia Bed Ruffled Bed Skirt in Grey which I absolutely love! Unlike other bed skirts I have, this one sits so nicely and full.

This room was terribly fun to decorate! I’m usually working with a more neutral palette so it was a breath of fresh air to run free with bold colors. You shouldn’t be afraid to bring in colors and mix patterns. If you are watchful of the flow of things, it will be marvelous affair!
